I'm interested to see who's shooting wood arrows, and what do your wood arrows look like? What's your favorite shaft? Douglas Fur, Elm, cedar or other shafts like maple, ash or hickory? Pictures are always great!

These are cedar, a friend of mine made them for me to match my bow. Really love them.

Actually, I broke one on a shoot at the beginning of February. The crack everyone heard was actually the sound of my heart breaking. It is true though that they smell nice. I will save this set for my backyard shooting and use my aluminums for 3D shooting from now on.
BTW, were you at the Grayling shoot last year?

Dougfir made by my buddy Ron French been shooting his arrows for ten years now and yet to ever have to touch one or straiten it. I won't shoot anything else out of my longbows!
About the only time the break is because of my own mistakes!
Clean them up and keep on killing!

75/80# Surewood. Personal arrows of Snag. He sold me a half dozen when I was in need. I also have a set of 70/75, but these are special. Real turkey feathers and each arrow has its actual spine written on them. I had 190 Grizzley single bevel on them.

My current arrows: 60/65# 11/32" Surewood Douglas Fir at 29" BOP. Ebony stained foreshaft and whitewashed crown. Also, my first try at cresting. Finish is Parks Wood Floor Finish, that the shaft was dipped in. Feathers are left wing Trueflights cut on my high profile banana chopper to 5.5".
I followed Mike Vines "recipe" and tutorial found here:

Here's some I made last year and am currently using.
Douglas Fir (surewood shafts), 11/32" 50-55s 29" length, traditional barred yellow/black feathers, English Walnut Stain and polyurethane finish, with white crown and marble finish, hand crested (amateurishly).
I love watching them fly, almost too pretty to hunt with. Perfect spine with 100 grain points out of my Redstag. Total weight 560 grains.

Love looking at pretty arrows like the next guy. I wonder though, just how gorgeous the wood arrows of the early indigenous peoples were...
I like mine simple and plain.
