longbow handle finishing material question

I recently finished a Dryad bow. After looking at my options, I have decided that I would like to finish the handle like Saxton Pope. He mentions wrapping the handle with heavy fishing line. I am pretty sure he was not talking about mono line. My guess is that he used something like dacron. Am I on the right track here? If so, I would like to get a 2 tone dacron line. I have looked in a couple of hardware stores with no luck in finding 2 tone dacron. Can you point me in the right direction so that I can complete this bow? Thank you for your input!!

Look at flyfishing stuff. We use dacron as a backing. Not sure if your going to find two tone....as a matter of fact you'll probably find flourecent stuff, but have a look

I bought a roll of hemp twine at wally world for a few bucks to use as handle wrap and it works very well. It is very strong and after wrapping I give it a good coating of Massey finish to seal it from moisture. I also use rattan chair caning for handle wrap. You can get this from craft stores. Pat

I haven't seen it on a bow, but rattan wrapped tightly makes a distinctive flyrod grip. Use the small stuff, and wrap either end with some silk thread for a unique look. Just finish it with sparvarnish, a couple of thin coats should do it.
