Great Northern Quiver

Well I have had a few questions on the quiver I just got from GN. I am not sure how long they have had this color but it was new to me also since I last bought one. This color is called Black Horsehide and this is the Standard model.

Bill, Thats a question with an answer I will need to explain. I have used several very long heads in these standard size quivers. Here is the deal. When they are new I don't push the heads all the way in. That is to prolong the life of the foam. I get many more years out of the foam this way. As you know once the foam is worn the heads get loose in there and rattle when you shoot or even slip out. So at first some of the back of the longer broad heads do stick out below the hood. As the years go on I push them deeper and deeper into the foam. On the last few years of the foams life, YES all the head is in the hood.

They do make a deeper hood if you are worried about that. I've never cut myself on them and don't think its a problem.

Thats what I do too.  Keeps them tight longer.  One of my favorite quivers.  I like the looks of that color.

TJ, and others, here is a solution I learned from Randy Morin:
First thing I do with a new Great Northern quiver (and most others) is throw the foam it came with away.  I replace it with a high density foam the local kyaker's use for additional flotation.
A piece  12"x12"x4" makes over a dozen foam inserts for less than $20 bucks ($15 for the last piece I bought 8 years ago).
It is, unlike the GN foam, quiet.  
When I used the Grizzly 190's I left the foam 3/4" above the hood so none of the blades were exposed.  
The foam usually lasts me 2-3 years with the broadheads completely imbeded, protecting both the broadheads and clumsy me.
I use a bandsaw to cut them out, but a serrated knife works just fine.
After getting the right fit, a little contact cement will hold them in place until they wear out.

I've got one one with the horse hide hood too.  And I carried 3 blade 250 grain VPA's in mine and they fit fine.

The foam is worn out on mine.  I have cut myself using Grizzly's that were not fully covered by the hood. Thanks Walt, I'm gonna use your idea.
