TT Black Maxw weight differences when on a Hoyt Dorado
« on: March 18, 2016, 05:47:00 PM »
Okay, I know that the TT Black Max Limbs are marked as if they are on a 17" TT Riser.

I also know that a lot of the marked weights of the TT Black max limbs are not accurate ie. marked 50@28 may be 52 or 53lbs@28 on that same 17" Riser

May question is have any of you guys measured the weight of you limbs on a TT 17" Riser (so you know the actual weight) and then put them on a 19" Dorado Riser and if so was there a weight change???? I know that if you go from a 17" riser to a 19" you should loose a couple pounds but that's not the case if the limb pocket angles are different.

I looked on some forums and have seen completely conflicting info on the Dorado and Black Max: some say the have gained weight and some say they have lost weight. I spoke with Lancaster and they said that your weight should stay the same. I have two sets of TT limbs on Dorados and they feel close to the marked weight but I don't have a TT riser to put them on to know if they are marked correctly .

What say you??

The Dorado has standard Hoyt geometry so it should be about the same as the TT riser.

It's a bit of a crap shoot but it should be real close.  Especially when you looking for them to "feel close".

I've had limbs gain in weight and some come up short where they hit the weight marked at 28" but at my DL of 30"

BlackMax are rated for three turns out on a 17" riser.  So if you shoot them with limb bolts in the whole way they will gain 10% of indicated poundage for 28" draw.
Now on a Dorado you are using a ILF bolted down so they are at max poundsge, but minus 2# to compensate for the extra length of the Dorado
Super Curves.....
Covert Hunter Hex9h
Morrison Max 6 ILF
Mountain Muffler strings to keep them quiet
Shoot as much weight as you can with accuracy

I've used many BlackMax limbs on my Dorado risers.  The BlackMax are rated at minimum preload.  On the Dorado you're bolting them down to maximum preload. The angle of the Dorado is a little less than the TradTeck risers.

Bottom line... all my limbs weighed within a pound or two +/- of what they are rated on the 17" risers.
