I'll try to find a pic, but my buddy shot a P&Y woodland caribou, complete pass through with a 70" 40# 1969 Hoyt Pro Medallist recurve. I put prairie rattlers on it for him to camo those white limbs.

My first bow kill, and first deer ever, was a nice 10 point buck with a 45# Ben Pearson recurve back in 1971. No pics from that far back. More luck than skill went into that little adventure.

This thread inspires me. When I got back into trad last year I bought a 51# Browning Nomad from the classifieds here. A few months later I bought a beater Ben Pearson Stallion 45# for a bowfishing rig. The Ben Pearson has quickly become my favorite. I also refinished the Ben Pearson so it is no longer a "beater"! I just cant get any consistency with the Browning but I am very confident with the Ben Pearson so I will probably use it this fall.

Lots of good points here. Twenty years ago I thought I had to shoot a 60# recurve and I missed a lot of deer. I've had much more success after moving down to a 46# bow. These days I stay somewhere in the 45#-50# range. A 60# bow is tough to draw after you've been sitting still for 2 or 3 hours.

This is a great topic and I'd still like to see more people chime in. I have heavier poundage bows, but I probably shoot my Hill Country 45# longbow the best.
Right now it will probably be my go to bow for hunting this fall and I'm looking for recommendations on a heavy arrow setup. What's everyone else using in your 40-45# bows?
