This thread has become very interesting to me lately. I have shoulder surgery scheduled this month, and the doctor tells me I won't be pulling my regular weight bows (around 55#) for a while. I may not ever be able to pull them as well as I used to. These pictures do give me confidence, which is important, because I have always shot the heaviest bows I can handle. A word of caution - be careful how you wring out a mop, as it can seriously damage your shoulder.

45# 1974 Howatt Hunter @ 18 yards clean pass through

45lb @28" Samick Red Stag at 17 yards. 680 gr rear tapered POC arrow, 290gr broadhead weight accomplished by 140gr grizz and 150gr woodyweight and about a 20% FOC.  Went completely through, the buck walked 30 yards after the hit, and I watched him go down.

Have read this from pg. 1 trying to get a handle on my need to drop weight due to health reasons. This thread is reassuring as I've never hunted or shot anything with a  bow under 55lbs, or more. Just ordered a new Widow CHX at 46@30 hope it works out.

I have gained a lot more confidence in, and respect for, my new 45# longbow.

I see absolutely no point in shooting more weight than this on anything in the lower 48 save grizz and maybe elk. Total confidence is had by this ol' redneck!

Well Dalton, some people do see a benefit, because many times there is one...and Moose and Bison might should be added to the list along with heavy shielded boars.  Unless you can always, and I mean always, make the perfect shot into the small soft spot.....big sharks and big gators.

If I wasn't having difficulty with my computer I would post a photo of my buck I shot with a 40# recurve and Bear razor head.  It was obviously adequate as the buck was dead within 74 yards.

For me, I think there is a point to shoot heavier.

I  just put in for a moose, elk and sheep hunting permit.  I intend to shoot the same bow all hunting season.  Besides the possibility of hunting one of these animals I am already planning on bear and whitetail.

I want my shooting to be as consistent, as dialed in if you will as I can get it. So no jumping between lighter and heavier bows, different weight arrows, etc.  Same bow, same arrow for everything.  Seems to make sense to me. It is one more thing I can control, even if it just a confidence thing.

Yes, and not to mention some folks shoot heavier bows better, me being one of them.

Anybody else have pictures? I just purchased a 45lb Hummingbird King Fisher. I am pulling it 30" so its probably close to 51lbs or so. I have always shot around 55 or 56 lbs at my draw weight. I don't guess I will have any problems.
