NICE, Rick!!!!!  :clapper:

Many folks disagree with my logic about shooting fawns...
The meat is sweet and tender, and a death by my arrow, is certainly quicker and less painful than those fangs.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

May The Great Spirit Guide Your Arrows..... Happy Hunting!!!

Bagged a nice doe this morning with my 1963 Vintage 58" 45# Red Wing Hunter.
Arrow is 546g Beman ICS Bowhunter 400 with a Cutthroat 250g single bevel broadhead.

Double lung passthrough. She went ~ 50 yards, layed down, and never got up.

I am very interested in what broadheads you guys are using. Is anyone shooting a three blade with a true 40# bow and how is penetration? Thanks, Greg

GregD- I shoot a 400 spine Beman Bowhunter shaft fletched with 3-4" right wing parabolic feathers, Gold Tip insert that is 12 grains I believe and a 250 grain VPA 3 blade broadhead. Total arrow weight is right at 530 grains according to my old balance beam scale. Bow was a Black Widow PT that pulls 45# at my 27.5" draw.
The deer I shot this season was quartering away. Arrow entered the ribs on the right side and passed thru liver, lung and top of the heart and exited in front of the left front leg. Arrow stuck in the ground and the deer rand 15 to 20 yards, stood for a few seconds and fell over.

I added one last night with a Morrison ILF riser and Dryad ACS ILF longbow limbs pulling 40#@27".  Head was a Northern Broadhead 175 on an Axis 5mm shaft.

What a great thread. I have pointed a friend toward this thread who needs to shoot in the 40 to 45 pound range and had concerns.

I haven’t been using traditional tackle long, but I’ve managed a few animals. One suicidal hen turkey and one nice mature doe. I shot the turkey with a 40 lb longbow and the doe with a 45 lb recurve.
