It's a week of firsts for me. Last Friday I killed the largest buck of my life a big NJ public land 12 point and it was my first buck with a recurve. Then I killed my first deer a doe with a longbow yesterday. The bow I used, I bought from the estate sale of a gentleman named Horace Eckman who passed away a few months ago in his 90's. He is a legend in NJ Archery. He competed in the 50's well into his later years. A few years ago after his wife passed away and knowing he wouldn't be around much longer he donated the money to build a 20 lane 40 yard indoor range for two local archery clubs to use and where I shoot and coach archery. I dedicated the doe to him. The bow was a Fleetwood Frontier 40@28 shooting Easton 6.5's 500 spine with Simmons Swamp Shark head.

This little Bear Bearcat is right at 40 lbs on my scale at my draw. It is my rehab bow following shoulder replacement.   I was using a Gold Tip 3555 with a 50 grain insert, 175 grain Simmons Tigershark.  75 yard recovery and the broadhead was stuck in the off shoulder.
7 yard shot.

I was able to kill this button buck yesterday to put some meat in the freezer. First deer I seen since missing a nice 6pt two weeks ago. Slow season so far.

Took this kudu in Namibia last March. Used the takedown longbow my friend, Ken Bullman built for me using one of KennyM’s designs.   It’s 42# at my draw. Used gold tip skinny blems and Simmons timber shark head. The arrow weighed about 535gr…

That bull took a few leaps at the shot..then walked away..at about 60yds he started to wobble…few more steps and he tipped over.  He was 12yds away when I shot..he was one of 2 good bulls in a group of seven that came to the water…it was exciting.
