Help with Super Grizzly info (added FD curve)
« on: March 23, 2016, 08:43:00 PM »
I picked up a Bear Super Grizzly on C'list which is in good shape so I'm trying to get an age estimate. Also whats the brace height on these? The string thats with it gives it a brace height of 7" and it shoots well with it.
Thanks

My first "real" trad bow was a Super Grizzly. I bought it new old stock from a place that bought out an archery shop and was selling all kinds of near stuff. That was 1981. Still have the bow  ;)

BH should be anywhere from 7.5 to 8.25, but if yours is shooting well at 7, why fight it. If it is quiet, even better. My guess is you have an endless loop string with it?? I like mine up around 8" but no less than 7.75". Enough to get the string just out of touching the end of the grooves in the limbs.

Killed my first trad deer with it. I now own three. All are LH. I did measure my original SG. It is marked 50 @ 28. It has lost a lot of its gusto. It is around 40lbs at 27 for me. I always thought it was me getting stronger.    :biglaugh:

My serial # is KD 16442 on my original one bought when I was 16. Ours were likely made a month or so apart. Maybe less.

I strung mine up, and with a flemish B55 it braced at 8.5 with a freshly strung string. I shot it a few times off the front porch in dim light. Only 10 yards. I must like the brace at 8.5" and forgot   ;)   I haven't strung it in probably 6 months or more, or shot it.

Actual string length for 8.5" brace is 53.5"

I like my Grizzly bows to brace around 8.25-8.5

You found a good one Galen.

Here are two force draw curves for the Griz. One for 28" and one for 30". Now if the wind settles down in the morning I'll try to get some chronograph readings.
28"

30" starts to stack

Well not too bad for a stock bow. Though the brace height is only 7" with a 55" string and I know people are saying 8+" for the brace height. That would require a 54" string which looks way to short. This thing is whisper quiet even with 3 fingers under with some small yarn puffs for silencers. No unusual hand shock either.

That looks about right.  Are you measuring from the string to the deepest part of the riser throat?

Cool!

BTW, are you WTK on another site? All this looks familiar!

Yea Orion. I checked 3 rivers and their info showed a 54" string so I made up a new b55 string. After some stretch its at 7 1/2" now.
