I find myself fantasizing about a float down the New River in a canoe looking for smallmouth as a subterfuge for doing some mid-summer scouting in Ashe County...

Better hurry, the smallie "feed" will peak this month!  The trick is catching it when the daily afternoon thunderstorms that are so common this time of year don't have the water all clouded up... but that's always a roll of the dice if you don't live up in God's Country. I made a "minnow motel" out of an old washing machine tub, it's sitting in the creek full of bait just waiting for things to get right!
