Thinking of switching to XX75 Aluminums

I shoot a 50#recurve cut to center and draw to 28". I'm thinking of switching to Easton XX75 for a 2017 moose hunt in Alberta. I'm thinking I'd like to use a single bevel two blade broadhead somewhere in the area of 145-190 grns. If you have a similar setup and could help me get started with a ballpark suggestion on arrow spine (2016's, 2018's etc) and arrow length given the broadhead range I indicated, it would certainly save me some time and would be greatly appreciated. I haven't shot aluminums in 30 years back when I used a wheelie bow. Thanks!

Can't go wrong with those sizes. I would lean toward the 2018, but you might even try 2117 at a little longer with the heavier heads.

Moose? I'd try 2117s as well with a 190gr point and start at a 31" length. Otherwise the 2016s should do well at 29.5" with a 145gr point.

FF will make them weaker.

I would lean toward the 2018's. Smaller diameter, thicker walls. Very tough arrow.

2018s! 30 inches long and 160 grain point could be real close.

For reference..a 30" 2018 w/200g point will put you right at 600g. 2117 just a smidge less...about 590g

Once tuned to your bow, practice under a stressful situation, raised heart rate, and shoot in different positions, to find the most forgiving arrow for YOU!

I'd start with a 30" 2018, with a 185 grain Grizzly single bevel.

If you go with a glue on BH I'd get the glue-in tapered inserts and just glue on the BH instead of messing around with adapters. Stronger.

I would go with the 2018 smaller diameter thicker wall great arrow shafts shot them for years. Still have a few but shoot mostly wood now.

And I would go with the Legacy shafts rather than the GG shafts. If your not into the graphic thing camo hunters. Both have higher tensile strength.

They are. I think Tater was comparing the 2018 to the 2117.

I think the 2018 would be good.I like the thinner diameter as well and the increased wall thickness.Especially for moose.

I would also follow the advice that was given above to go with the swaged insert and glue on head.Thats a strong connexion and eliminates a weak link at the business end of your hunting arrow.You would probably need 5/16th glue on heads and field points.My hunting arrows were rigged that way with aluminum shafts.I shot 2020s and 2018s.

2018 should get you right where you need to be. It's always funny to hear older guys talk about the nostalgia of wood, I was raised in the 90s and aluminum actually has a nostalgia for me LOL

If you are talking about your new River Runner it isn't quit cut to center and the velcro side plate Chad puts on them is thick. I think the 2018 will be your best bet. Great arrows by the way either way you go.

Thanks Tom but the River Runner stays home for this trip. I need to take my 3 piece Recurve on this hunt. Pretty much decided on the Easton 2018 legacy. Great feedback and advice from everyone here!
