My wife's first trad bow - it's a Hoot
« on: April 16, 2016, 10:11:00 AM »
A Lil' Hoot to be exact.  My wife finally tried shooting trad a couple months back and actually enjoyed it.  I have a 42# Ben Pearson Hunter that she could shoot fine, but the grip was a little too fat for her.  She preferred shooting my R/D longbow even though it's a tad heavy at 47#, due to the slimmer grip.  So I set out on a mission to find somebody with a slim gripped bow willing to trade for one of my knives.  I worked out a deal in early February, but other time requirements slowed me down a bit on finishing the knife up.  I finished it last week and made the swap Friday, for this Hoots Custom Lil' Hoot; 56", 42@28", with 10 GT Trad 600s.  Limbs look to be bamboo cores with red elm outer lams under clear glass, with cocobolo or something similar for the riser.  Simple, but very attractive combo IMO.  Despite almost looking like a youth bow, this thing is quick.  Pound for pound, it's easily the quickest bow in my house. With my 500 gr hunting arrows, it looks to be as fast, if not maybe a little faster than my 47# R/D, and probably isn't far behind my 50-55# '60s era recurves.  She doesn't plan to hunt with it for now, just wants it to shoot when me and the kids are shooting, so I may just have to "borrow" it some during hunting season.  ;)   Anyway, here's a couple of pictures.

That's sharp looking. I really like the grip. Lucky man to have a wife who wants to shoot!

She's been hunting with a compound for years. Probably more deadly with a firearm than I am.  It's just taken a little while to get her into trad archery.

That sounds like a good set up to start her in trad. You are lucky to have a wife that shoots bows and guns and likes to hunt. Can she also change the oil in the pickup truck?

Great looking bow. It may be for your wife but it sounds like it may be for YOU. :-)

She's a beaut!

That looks like a fun little bow to shoot!
