Am I a sell out for shooting a 3 piece longbow
« on: April 16, 2016, 08:47:00 PM »
I just bought a 3 piece longbow. I bought It for travel plus I just had to have one. When I told a friend I just bought a 3 piece he said I was a sell out. He thinks that a 3 piece longbow should not be allowed in the longbow class. I shoot a lot of 3D and most shoots other than state and nfaa shoots is shoot what you bring. Its just longbow and recurve. I have no problem shooting against guys that shoot a 3 piece longbow with my 1piece . So do I have a big advantage if I take my new bow to a shoot. Don't want to be a sell out.

I would say that you need to shoot what you want to.  This is America, pursue what makes you happy.  It's one of your rights.  Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I don't know, it's not his money being spent on the new bow.  If he's a true friend throw some friendly jabs back at him and move on.

That's how I would handle that.

I have no idea how a 3 piece bow is "selling out". I shoot one piece longbows, all 68", I don't feel I'm any more pure, hardcore, etc. than anyone else. You could shoot a shorter 1 piece, a 2 piece take down, pr whatever else, I see no difference? I only draw a (very thin and pointless one) at ILF super-tune bows, but still, who cares? Its your bow, your money. If the shoot allows it, no big deal.

Not a sell out at all, takedowns make great sense for travel. Enjoy it.

Sell out nah... Smart probably. Three piece makes a lot of sense.

That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard, and I have heard it plenty of times. Shoot what makes you happy, and let the next guy do the same!

And for what it's worth, it's the monkey pulling the string that wins the shoots, and not any piece of fancy equipment!

What he said ^^^
Dumbest thing I've ever heard!
I have 1,2, and 3 pieces bows. Which ever one I've been shooting the most is the one I shoot the best!

I look at this as (3D is my practice) I'm paying the shoot sponsors to put holes in their targets and nothing more. Shoot what you enjoy.
I try not to let my mind wander...It is too small and fragile to be out by itself.

That's absurd! As if a three-piece recurve is any different from the one piece?

My first response was, "Why do you even feel the need to ask us?" Your bud's response, if he was really serious, is one of the most absurd statements ever. Why do you care what others think about what you shoot?  Apparently your self-confidence needs a boost. Shoot what you want and like and the hell with what anyone else thinks.

Not a sellout. I have 1 piece, 2 piece, and 3 piece longbows and enjoy shooting all of them.

If you are then so am I; I'm shooting a 3 piece recurve. Silly notion, you are using the exact same skills as a 1 piece shooter but I know it is out there.
