Bohning Classic/T nock vs. marco snap nock
« on: April 22, 2016, 02:50:00 PM »
I'm making up some wood arrows and wondered which is best.  I would like to hear which you prefer and why before I settle on one.  Thanks

I prefer to have the string nock under the arrow.  I get my strings from Chad and he ensures that the 5/16 original Mercury nocks have just that amount of friction versus slippage then they stay in place on the string without sliding up the string.  I still have some arrows with Marco nocks they work with skinnier serving areas, but because the throat of the nock has that wider hole, I need to use two nocking points for them.  I have a number of arrows with the Bohnings, i have spread the teeth on most of them, they also tend to be a little bit bigger at the bottom of the throat, they are kind of a spring tension fit.  I handle the arrows by the nock and I find the the index gives adds to leverage of handling an arrow.  I know that John Schulz would file that index off, but I never cut my cheeks with them, so I leave them on.

I dont think one is better than the other...just depends what one works better for you. I use the Bohning classic because it has a wider throat than the T-nock. Not sure what a Marco is but the Classics "snap" onto the string enough for me. I use the 11/32 & 5/16 on wood, aluminum & carbon.

The ones that have that were labeled Marcos were just your basic roundy no index snap on.

I used both over the years. Marco was less than BJ's and I liked the rounded style. I use AAE which is a rounded nock as well.
I tend to pick nocks for their color. Only nocks I ever had issues with were the Sotler and Nirk's.

Have also used both over the years.
Also shot a lot of Mercury speed nocks, too.

No issues.

I have always used the BC, No real reason other than I like the look of them.

The last time I used Mercury nocks they broke in the cold weather and caused dry fires . I use Bohning they seem to be hard for me to get on straight and it maybe cause of my taper I sometimes have to install as many as three before I get one straight but they fit nice on my string and don't break in the cold.

We stock both and the Bohning's far and away out sell the Marcos.  I like the Bohnings on my thicker strings because they fit well and I like the index, but use the Marcos on my thinner string as I shoot 3 under and I don't like a nock that is too loose.

Largely personal preference as they are both a quality nock IMO.

I've used both.
The marco's do "snap" on more than the bohning.
They are both high quality.

Marco's are available in more sizes and colors.

I normally lightly file/sand the string groove of my nocks anyway to get rid of a bit of the "snap" fit no matter what type of nock I'm using.

So....
If there was a color I HAD to have for some reason that only marco made I'd have no problem using them.

I do prefer the looks of the bohning a bit more.
They seem to line up a little more flush with the shaft.

I use the Bohning Classics.  Their grip/snap fit is pretty light, which I prefer.  The snap nocks are just that, a snap on fit that is too much for my liking.

I've always used the Classics, found the Marco nocks a little tight for most of the strings I've had. Not a huge deal, but I prefer not to file or sand the throats open.

Keep in mind most string makers will make the serving match your nock choice.
