Adirondack soul
« on: October 21, 2007, 11:01:00 AM »
The streams are the blood that runs through my veins
The mountains are the medicine that cure any pain.
Many seek fame, fortune and gold, i seek just one more day in her beautiful hold.
Never would i had imagined such a magical space would continue to grow in this time and this place.
Her strength is more powerful then mans lust of money and greed, she fights through all of this and continues to seed!!!
The colors, the sounds, the smells in the air,
all touched with such emotion and undying care.
A well trodden trail, the flight of the hawk, it speaks of great beauty without need to talk.
Words could never describe this heaven that lives, it asks nothing for the beauty it gives.
There will come a day when to the other side i walk,
but through the creeks and the winds i will continue to talk.
Only in body will i be gone, as the coyote, hawk and turkey will continue my song.
I was born here, i'll die here for this is my home, there is no better place for a spirit to roam.
It is this magic that makes you feel alive and whole and touches my heart and my Adirondack soul!
I go by many names but Daddy is my favorite!
listen to everyone,FOLLOW NO ONE!!
if your lucky enough to spend time in the mountains...then your lucky enough!
What ever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of the Earth.

Beautiful Ken...beautiful.   Have you read "Woodswoman" by Ann LaBastille?  It's about life in the Adirondacks in a hand-built cabin.  Ann wrote two books, the second was "Return to Black Bear Lake."   They are great reads and I know you would appreciate them.

This will make your poem easier to read:

A place like that deserves someone who loves it as you do.

I hope it lasts forever. Few people get to be in heaven on earth.

Long life to you in your mountains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken, I've never met you, but I know you!  You have written several things here that reveal who you are.  This poem is very well done and expresses your thoughts well enough that we can see them.  I think I one was told once that poetry was finding just the right words to express the thought.  Seems to me you have that down rathjer well.  I enjoyed that.  I have some places that are special like that to me , but I could never express it that well.

Bill,
i had many more lines to this poem in my head buy my views of the modern world and its waste and greed bleed through so i took a lot out as it took away from the true beauty i am trying to express. thank you for your kind words.

Ah!  That's good stuff Ken!  When a person feels a deep and quiet attachment to a certain chunk of God's good earth, a place that has been a sanctuary of solitude, refreshment and spiritual renewal, a place that brings satisfaction...  when you give a sigh of relief once you come back to a place after having been away even for a short then you know you have a home.

I feel the same way about the rolling prairies of Iowa!
