I've had luck with the fan trick and shotguns.  I keep my fan zip tied to an old arrow so I can stake it in the ground when needed.  I considered birds "henned" up when you hunt a farm 15-20 birds fly off the roost and each gobbler had 8-10 hens a piece. Makes for a tough hunt.  In that situation I try my best to find a lone bird mid morning like others have suggested.  These Eastern turkeys we have in KY can be tough to deal with!
