Here's a nice Cohutta boar...and a nice fat bear.  Compare the two in size.

Hey gentlemen.  Was wondering if I might tag along on this hunt as well. I'm not that far from Cohutta, but never had the chance to hunt it before.  It'd be great if I could get some guidance from those in the know.

ROH

Sounds like a plan.

All I need to know is exactly where and when.

I suppose we can establish the details as the date gets closer.

Looking forward to it!!

I'm really lookin' forward to this one. Can't wait to meet you guys.

Terry, I may try to drive up one day soon just to find the area that we would meet up at. Could you post directions from Calhoun? Can I get there with two wheel drive?

Thanks.....Chuck

Cool pics, Terry.  next time, tilt the photos away from you while snapping the digitals.  The angle won't be very obvious.  If you get reflected light, it's not tilted enough.

Chuck.....yeah, you can get there with 2 wheel drive.

From Calhoun get on 225 going north toward Chatsworth......go untill you come to a big intersection with 4 lanes and a turning lane at a red light.....turn right on that 4 lane and get in the left hand lane.

When you get to HWY 411, there will be a red light and a RR crossing in view, take a left on 411 and go about 8-10 miles to Cisco and you will see the rock church on the right.

Major,

If Bob or Chuck comes up early, that's where I'm going to take them.....a lot of that area can be 'old farts' area if they want to roam that, and there still some good hill climbing as well if they want to get there heart rate up a bit.

But, I'm not so sure about the critters being run off from in there after that 'special hunt' they are having the weekend before.  High Powered rifles ......and if they open up all the gates.....that area will be disturbed to say the least.

Gonna try to get a couple trad buddies from Tenn to join in also
The gun hunt starts this week and goes to 8th
I dont think It will get hammered too hard this time of year. Jigger would be good in that everyone can meet at cottonwood patch camp
Unless it snows then we need to go high and ride til we see where they are crossin Plus we can have a trad snowball fight

Terry,
Dan and I were talking about Panther Bluff last season.  We both got close, and the sign was unreal.  I noticed that there are not many people making it that far in.  Panther trail is very narrow, and until the DNR mowed it before opening day, the briars were taking it over (read that to mean not even hikers are going down that trail!).  It would deffinately be a big boys hunt, because getting a critter out of there is 1,000 to 2,000 feet up and 2 to 3 miles out no matter which direction you go!  We both decided it would be a place we go and spike camp overnight.  Oh man, I am getting all jittery thinking about this one.  Feb. 24 sounds good for a day trip.

Neil,

I'm afraid SOS tain't going to make this one - don't know about any of the other southern boys - or even the eastern gang.  Knee surgery in 2 days with hopes of being able to hunt Ossabaw 2 weeks later.  Ossabaw is FLAT!  And Cohutta is........NOT!  Ossabaw greatest elevation change maybe 10 feet.  Cohutta, maybe 2000!  Ouch.

Don't forget to come by and shoot if you are in town.

Steve

Dang, you guys sure know how to make a hunt sound fun.  If our group of Michiganders didn't already have a fort Stewart hunt planned starting this weekend, we's sure love to join you.  None of us have ever been hog hunting and it sure would be nice to get a few pointers from the masters...  :notworthy:

Good pics Terry...I've hunted black bears numerous times before and was wondering if my tackle was going to be effective on pigs.  Looks to me like them pigs are just short haired bears.  Must be that warm Georgia weather...

All you guys that are saying 'some day'....3rd weekend in Sept......that's normally the annual TBG bear hunt at Cohutta.....which also includes hogs and deer.

This is more than just a hunt, its an adventure unto itself, rugged terrain can be found just out of camp...but there is also some mild roaming here and there. There are two wild and scenic rivers in the wilderness, dozens of ruff and tumble creeks and streams, cliffs, waterfalls, hemlocks as big around as a VW bug, and mountain laurel galore. Its a very beautiful place, and makes for a nice Sept Hunt since its usually cooler here than in most parts of GA and even parts of surrounding states.

We had a fun crew last Sept...and want to make it even bigger and better....so make plans now for 'someday' in Sept 2007.

   More Cohutta fun stuff....
