The Canada Bear Camp Thread
« on: May 20, 2016, 05:05:00 PM »
Where you going?  When? And what ya packing?  Me and two buddies are going to taggart bay lodge in quebec on lake kipawa. We are driving straight through from Ga and all hunting with recurves. Ill be carrying my widow paII and shooting tree sharks as always. Im really hoping to score early so I can shift my focus to smallies and eyes. This will be my 16th trip for canada bears and Im only 33 years old. Didnt kill one here in ga the last two years so I figured it was time to head north again. Wont be holding out for a monster but any bear 3 years or older will be fine with me as I have killed several nice ones before.

I'm headed up with two other Tradgangers to Manitoba with stickflingers. I'll be shooting my TallTines 59@28" and grizzly sb two blades. This will be my first bear hunt and I'm pretty excited.

Its gonna change your life man. I actually dont like killing bears anymore but I cant stop hunting them. Its a big mental dillema for me. I spend a ton of time in the mtns in the summer and I end up always getting to know a few sows with cubs and spend many many hours watching them. It gets harder every year to let the string go but Id rather chase bears than anything else on the planet

Leaving in the morning for Saskatchewan in search of a cooperative bear. Should be a fun trip.

Its been several years since Ive gone bear hunting. We always did a do it yourself hunt in Ontario. We stayed at a resort that has bear hunting but we always set our own baits and stands. The group always got 1 bear but I was never the lucky hunter. I like to give it a try again.

Wish I was going. Good luck on your journey and can't wait to read the story of the hunt here!

I got a good lesson about how to tell the age of a bear a few years ago...a local game warden was telling us about shooting a nuisance bear...it was a sow that weighed about 100 pounds in her estimation...she sent a tooth in for aging and that bear was 5 years old

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Good luck to all of you! Michael, I'm excited for you and I'll be praying for you to have an awesome trip! When do y'all go? Let me know how it goes!

As for me, I won't likely be going out of state (much less out of country) anytime soon, but I might be able to try again here at home this fall.

If I were going to go to Canada for bears, I'd probably try to go with Jerry Russell. He's a great guy and a hard worker, so I'd be confident that my money was being well spent, with a high probability of success.

I'll be heading up to LaTuque Quebec with Tom Phillips for Bear Quest 10. Next weekend Tom and I are going up on a bait run and set some stands. I leave the 10th for the hunt. Good luck to all the spring bear hunters!!
