Wakarusa/Topeka Rendevouz - ??
« on: May 29, 2016, 11:02:00 PM »
I'm a new member.  The events/gathering forum is evidently now closed.  I'm not having any quick luck on knowing where to find info or ask for info.  So, I'm looking for info from people "in the know" about the annual KS Wakarusa Trad gathering that's going down this coming weekend; put on by T.H.E. Archery club.  Thanks in advance for any and all info (e.g., where and if you can camp, best campfires with hunting stories, methods on shooting arrows without your hands, best place to aim at an on-coming tornado, etc.)

Primitive camping on site. They have a website that should have more information. There is usually a multiple campfires. As far as hands free shooting uhh I got nothing. I usually just try and hide from tornaders.

If we're not supposed to eat animals ... how come they're made out of meat? ~anon

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

I might try to check this out depending on my work schedule. I think my boys would love it.

Thanks for the feedback.  I’m aware of the dates (this coming weekend) and location from T.H.E. Archery Club website, and it provides a name and contact phone number for more info.  But that’s all I’ve been able to find.  Nothing regarding event start and end times or costs for camping (& when you can roll in to camp), attendance, shoots, etc.  Or whether there will be any food/drink concessions, bbq’s, or if it’s all BYO_.  So, looks like I may be making a call :-)  Looking forward to making this event!  And I’ll look for the Nocking Point crew.

Did you make a call? If so, do you have any info to share?

Haven't made call TKO, tied up with work.  On website Jody Storman at 785-224-6255 is contact person for info (T.H.E. Prez). Today's hectic for me, not sure if I'll get a call off.

I can provide info on past shoots, may be different for this year
Camping is free, no showers there. People roll in Friday.
Usually @ 250 attend
tickle start, cards in by 3:00 pm 40 targets
Usually have some novelty shoots and raffles going on also.
scouts usually have breakfast and lunch to purchase. Dinners have sometimes happened.

Great course and terrain, usually is not backed up. My favorite shoot.

Had a great time at the shoot and the weather could not have been better both for shooting arrows or shooting the breeze. Got to meet a new traditional archery supply vendor, Feathers-n-Wood. Nice folks and hope to see them at future events around the region. The Nocking Point was there too and it was great to see them as well.
This is a fun shoot on a great course folks and Thanks to THE Archery Club for putting it on.

Great event, had an absolute blast, everything was well organized, met new friends, had stellar weather, humorous expert vendors, boy scouts provided excellent java & chow, came back with all my arrows and sore cheek muscles from smiling and laughing so much.  I 2nd Paul's thanks to Jody and THE Archery Club crew - their work made it all fire off wonderfully.  Trad is rad, and life is good.
