I'm gonna try my best...
« on: June 06, 2016, 04:29:00 PM »
To get my first trad deer out of this stand. I built this in Ag in 1995 for my Dad. He passed away in May of 2014. There's no telling how many deer he took out of this stand over the years. He never bow hunted, but he always had good luck in it. It's 12 feet to the seat. I've been practicing shooting out of it and will continue to practice out of it another month or 2, then it'll be time to go to the woods. It's getting some fresh paint this afternoon. I'm already looking for the perfect spot to hang it. I really want my first trad deer to be from his stand, so hopefully I can get it done!!

That stand has some good mojo.

That would be cool!  Good luck on your first trad deer!

My first trad deer came from a stand on a small piece of land my wife and I always wanted to own.

We finally bought it and put a house on it, and I shot a deer.

Good luck.  That stand should have some good mojo!

Thanks y'all. I got it painted, and I'm gonna keep shooting out of it for a while. I have an area in mind, I just need the right tree. I'll find it though and post some more pics when I get it set up.

Great job and best of luck this year.

Something I have revised over the years with a ladder/platform...If you are hunting on private land and plan to leave the stand up for the season, you might consider a hang-on stand in conjunction with the platform.  You can use your hang-on just above the platform and it provides a stable access to the hang-on, allows you to have a wider shooting radius, plus is much more comfortable to sit for long hours.  Just a thought.

btw...Where are you in East Texas?  I'm in Jasper.

That is a great idea. Thanks!! I've been practicing sitting in it and shooting. I can do it, just have to lean out a bit. The hang on would make it perfect!! I'm in Crockett, but we go to Jasper quite a bit. We like to camp at Martin Dies Jr. State Park. We may actually try to hunt in the WMA a little this year at Dam B.

I got it in the woods today. I set it up along a lease road between 2 box stands that belong to me and my son. But it's out of sight of both. The deer travel this stretch of road all the time and since it's out of sight of both stands I'm hoping they won't be as alert. I slipped in, hung it, trimmed a few limbs and got out. It's off the road enough and in enough cover that it pretty well disappears. My shots will be about 12 yards.

The stand from the road

And the view from the stand.

It's set up perfect for a N NW wind and I'm 100% comfortable with the shot. I've been shooting from the stand at the same distance quite a bit. Now I'm just waiting for October. The wind may make me have to hunt another location opening weekend, you never know, but I'd sure like to get my first trad kill out of this stand. We'll see!!
