I've never been. What actually goes on there? Do you get to try before you buy? Free expert advice at the ranges? I've never been to a show like this. Thanks guys.

It's a great event.  There are a bunch of custom bowyers and trad archery vendors (arrows, shafts, used bows, gloves/tabs, armguards, quivers, etc.) there, and there's a test/practice range there where you can try out bows.  I see you're in Michigan, so if you're looking for an event where you'll be able to try bows from multiple custom bowyers (as well as production bows like Bear), Compton is probably the biggest and best event you'll find without having to travel real far.

They have 3 or 4 3D courses set up-- I think around 48 targets total.

If you've never been to an event like this, go to Compton if you can make it.  It's probably the best (or one of the best) traditional archery festivals/rendezvous in the midwest.

You can try out bows until your fingers drop off and get good expert advice on about any archery topic.  Excellent event.

I work nights and it's hard to get up early and drive for a couple hours .
Could a person show up around noon and still be worth the trip ?

Somebody give me a nudge one way or the other. Part of me says stay with what I have with the upcoming Sept hunt. Time pretty short to start over again. Help!

One of the best shooting events you will find. I have made the 700 mile trip twice and almost went again this year, but life got in the way.....lol!

5 hours is a long drive for you Chain but if you go i bet you have a blast.  Vendors, seminars, food, four 3D courses, several bowyers, good people all in a nice setting along the river.  Compton does a great job putting on the Rendezvous.  I plan to go every year!
