Revelations from Rod Jenkins Class
« on: June 15, 2016, 12:37:00 PM »
Rod came to teach a class here in Bozeman over the weekend.

Turns out everything I thought I'd learned was incorrect!

Rod is a phenomenal teacher, and obviously a great shot. He gave me a plan to implement that will take some time, however everything worth doing is worth doing correctly.

I strongly urge anyone who is looking to be more accurate, who wants to trust their shot and wants to know that they can make the shot when it counts-call Rod. Schedule a class or get down to Bama and learn from the best.

I will be able to start my program here next week (studying for some insurance tests) and will keep everyone updated on my progress.

Well, at least throw us a bone..

what was incorrect?  what is correcting the incorrect?

My stance was incorrect, how I drew the bow was wrong, anchoring in the wrong place, not enough back tension and actively releasing the arrow rather than the back tension creating a smooth, fluid release.

I have a bunch of drills to work on to be able to execute a perfect shot every time!

I bet there will be some short arrows showing up in the classifieds soon    :D

Rod is a great teacher of "old time archery".

Thanks for the feedback!  I'm registered for a class next month with Rod Jenkins & Jimmy Blackmon at Lancaster Archery.    Can't wait!  I'm sure they will be picking apart my form.  LoL!

Rod has a gift for coaching.  He makes it simple.  No mystique, no bull, no smoke and mirrors--just proven technique.

I sure feel like I got my money's worth when I attended.

At first, I was a bit disappointed as I expected to be shooting hundreds of arrows, but Rod's theory is it does no good to practice the wrong thing over and over. We learned to start from scratch and perfect the technique before ever worrying about shooting at a bulls eye.

Certainly has made a difference   :)

Is there anyway to elaborate on your flaws, or is that asking for a "you should attend the seminar response".

haha, well yes you should attend the seminar.

But I found out that I wasn't in fact using back tension, and was able to find out what a really perfect shot felt like...made me want to repeat it over and over!

I've always known my release to be terrible and on purpose, which isn't good.

My stance wasn't correct, my shoulder's weren't in the right place etc etc.

basically everything I'd learned from books was incorrect, and led to short drawing, snap shooting, and canting incorrectly.

Best money you'll spend in archery.  His two day clinic is a huge value.  You spend two days learning directly from Rod, and equally important.....indirectly as he works with the others in the clinic.  The work is left for you to accomplish once you get home.  Spend the two days absorbing.  You will leave with a shot sequence, a plan, and the ability to diagnose most any fault you have.

Daniel B89,

A good portion of the instruction is on the Masters of the Bare Bow DVD's.  You will get more from the class than the DVD'.   However, the DVD's, especially the second one, are definitely worth the price.  Using the DVD's I watched and revamped my shooting  before attending my first clinic with Rod, it was a good start (I attended the first class he taught in Hood River Oregon.).  This was my second clinic and definitely worth the cost.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

This is 75% of the shooters so your not alone.  I took Rod's course the last time he was at Lancaster's.  It's amazing how much better you can shoot when you use back tension and release properly.

Shot thought.... Continuation to completion.....not releasing the arrow.

I looked at his web site, he doesn't have any dates posted for this year.
I would really like to attend if it was possible.

I'd call if I were you, pretty sure he is still bear hunting but he may be wrapping up soon.
