Is it just me ?
« on: June 19, 2016, 10:16:00 PM »
Well it's hay making time here in Michigan .
As my wife and I drive through the country side   we see those big round hay bales scattered around in fields .
Would it not be fun to just walk around in those fields and shoot those and walk to pull arrows and.....
My wife wants to do that as well .    :D    :p
Guess we are just a couple of kids trapped in old people's bodies .

When in my teens I remember going out to my uncle's farm roaming around the fields stalking round bales.
Good times!

Been doing that since I was a kid (round and square). Great enjoyment to be had. Shoot into the round sides though not the flat sides. Farmers tend to cringe when they see a big hole dug out of the middle of their hard earned bales.

Yep.  I have a thirty acre hay field.  My renter makes big round bales and does not usually take them until the end of October.  It is fun to take some long range shots at them.

I call it Mastodon Hunting and always look forward to hay making time. Long range shooting is a must. Just be careful not to bury an arrow in the center.

I also go Corn Stalking to shoot left behind ears after harvest. It's a short window of opportunity before manure spreading commences.

Yep.  Would like to skewer a few.

Of course, when the equipment to make the round bales first came out, a lot of farmers filed lawsuits against the manufacturers.

Seems their cows couldn't get a" square meal" out of them.   :bigsmyl:

I do it every year- as well as get a few small of the end-of-row round bales for my yard.

I live on 8 acres. Every year I buy two round bales from a guy and keep one here and take one to the farm in Arkansas. Make great targets and get lots of use.

I think about it but usually there is a  herd standing around the bail and I would feel bad about shooting someone's pet   ;)

I know this has been talked about before, but have any of you actually used one for your target? If so was it a good idea or a bad idea. I keep looking at those big bales thinking about it. I pretty much shoot broadheads so I don't know if that would matter or not.

Would probably last OK, but broad heads are difficult to pull out of straw bales, any straw bales.

I shot one broadhead into one round bale and learned my lesson.  It is OK to shoot field points or blunts into a round bale but the only broadhead I shot in one came off while I was trying to get it out, without tearing up the bale.  Obviously I couldn't leave the broadhead  in there because some cow might probably swallow it.  So be careful!

I use one year round as my backstop for my 3d target.

Nothing Like finding your last years missed arrows with the Swather!     :scared:

Never shot at the big rounds just the small squares but I know I would let one loose if I could.
