Broadhead advice
« on: July 08, 2016, 08:43:00 PM »
Hello everyone, I wanted to ask for advice on broadhead type and weight for my set up. I'm shooting a 66in #49@29in  Mahaska longbow arrow is a gold tip 5575 at 29 and a half inch length with a 145 field tips. The arrows fly perfect. I want to stay with a two blade head, Thanks in advance for alls help.

You would do well with Ace or Zwickey .
There are several good heads out there but I think you can't beat either of these and they are not as expensive as most others .

Graps I was thinking about zwickey but not sure on weight, the screw ins are 170 grain, also was thinking bout the 145 grain badger single bevel head.

Well I'm just a big fan of the Zwickeys .
In the end , you should just go with what you want .
To be honest with you , I have used the Ace because they are black .
I have made arrows that just don't look good with the Green colored Zwickeys .

I will add , there is nothing wrong with single bevel heads .
Also if you have trouble getting the weight you want , get some insert weights , like the washer type .

My only broadhead of choice is the old Bear Razorhead.....been using them since I was a kid back in the late '60s/early '70s.  With the bleeder blades and broadhead adapter, they weigh in right around 150 grains.

You should easily be able to go up to 200 gr with that arra. Lots of good ones to choose from just keep em sharp and pick a spot.

My favorite is the cutthroat single bevel from Rocky Mountain specialty gear. It's machined from a solid piece of steel and they boys offer a sharpening service for 5 bucks a pack that will leave them scary sharp and makes them easy for a sharpening noob like me to touch up

My favorite these days are the Badger heads.  Sure they are a little more expensive than some of the more simple construction standby heads, but compared to the cost of all things told with hunting it's a drop in the bucket and I really like their helical design and single bevel construction.

There are so many really good ones out there that it comes down to personal preference. Been reading a lot about the Cutthroats so purchased a few of the 200 gr left bevels for my upcoming Newfoundland moose sojourn. They look as though they will do their job nicely, if I do mine.

Longbowcrowder66, you will have to mount them on adapters for carbons.

Anymore I shoot Ace for everything from squirrels to elk. Took me awhile to figure out what I like but that is part of the fun.

There are a lot of good heads out there these days.  I think Stos makes a great two blade, if you don't want a single bevel.  I might try a single bevel this year, but I have no complaints about Stos, Zwickey, etc.
