Herter's 64" brace height?..string length?
«

Hey gang.
I'm having an old Herter's 64" 45# recurve sent to me.
Do any of you know about what the brace height should be on it?
I imagine the string should be 60"...but if that's wrong please let me know.
I'd be interested to know anything you'd like to share..model name etc.
I've attached the only picture I have of the bow..which I know isn't the best.
Thanks for any and all help.
John

If you remove the paint there should be a sticker that will tell the string length, which will be shorter than you think for most Herters. I have a 62 inch perfection sitka, and brace height is 7.5 to 8.5 inches on the label. Plus if you can take the paint off there will most likely be an amazing piece of wood in that riser.

Yep. The label on mine says it gets a string 6" shorter than the marked bow length.
Man I wish all bowyers would follow that simple example, or at least the ones that don't go by AMO/ATA specs.

Thanks guys.
I had a 46" herters that took a 40" string by the label.
I thought that may have been an oddity based on the really short bow length.
....wonder if I'll find a sticker... :confused:

Need to look at mine. It's put up in the original case--friend gave it to me, I've never shot it. Think it's a 62"?

Wow good info I would have never thought a string 6" less than bow would have worked. Nice bow!

HEY!
Just found out the serial number is...
k620974038
K= Sitka(most of the time)
62=62" (which I'm fine with)
09=September
74=1974
038=thirty eighth bow that month.
I've only found 1 picture of the sticker of a 62" sitka on the web.
That sticker called for a 56" string.
Can any of you confirm this by chance?
Thank you [thumbsup]

WELL...
Found out it was listed wrong.
By the sticker on the bow and the serial # it's a 62" sitka that takes a 56" string.
Thanks for the help guys!
