How to travel with bow in a hot car?
«
on:
July 12, 2016, 05:30:00 PM »
Going on a little road trip and want to bring my bow with me but I know I will have to leave it I. The hot car sometimes. Has anyone found any magic tricks to keep it cool? The best I have come up with is wrapping it in blankets
Thanks for any advice.

..and don't brace your bow until you are sure it has cooled completely.

All of the above. Do you have air-conditioning? With a little thoughtfulness bows are very robust in the heat.

With regard to not bracing until it has completely cooled, this is something I would do only if I had made a terrible mistake and left it in direct sunlight in the heat. If I simply put it under cover in the back of the ute to travel, with some insulation whether from a case, bag or blanket, it is good to go by the time I reach my destination (could be hours away). Heat is a reason why Outback tradbowmen always unstring recurves after use.

I ruined a bow by leaveing it strung in a very hot car. I was just a kid but it haunts me to this day. Good advice posted above. The bow was a browning backpackerII.

Sun shields in the front and back windows helps a bunch. Keep it low, unstrung and covered.

Someone makes a solar powered air circulater that fits in a car window . You set it on the top edge of the window and roll the window up till it touches . It will circulate outside air in your car .

Mine get wrapped in a quilt...just as effective in keeping heat out as they are at keeping heat in

I believe I can add to this. I unstring and case my bows in the summer months. I usually take two bows for a morning shoot season. I do crack my windows. But I have AC on. Just came back to San Diego from Phx. Az. I brought my Bear SK in a case unstrung. We have a SUV so no hot trunk. When we used a car I never put bow in trunk. Of course out here in summer almost everyone uses AC.
Only issue I ever had was with wood arrows but never a bow.

Luckily I have AC. Hatchback crossover style car so no trunk. I am more worried about leaving the car parked with the bow in it. Outside tema should not be over 105f at the hottest.

I have one unstrung and it lays in the back of my fully closed up car all day and everyday, its a 56" wasp which was bought just for that purpose to leave behind the back seat covered in the hatch area. I wouldn't leave anything expensive in there like that but have to admit that bow is as fine as when I bought it.
outside temp here in Boston I think has been 98 max a couple times but nothing like the heat some of you experience elsewhere.
