Tuning Tips for a Traditional Bow

Hey Gang,

Tuning a stickbow can be very frustrating at times and what may work for one may not work for another. Here's a link to an article that gives a lists of things to try when bare shafting or paper tuning.

As mentioned above there are so many variables and sometimes the "rules" just go out the door. These are just some tips in regards to tuning that have helped me as well as others over the years.

Now if arrow is stiff and you have 125 head and 100 grain insert be more weight up front then changing to a 200 grain head and standard insert?

Nhbuck, I'd just swap out the 125 for the 200. Leave the insert the same. To me anything less than 50gr +/- makes  a minuscule difference. The best thing I ever did was buy a few point wt test kits.  They run from 75gr up to 315gr. Gives me lots to work with.

Kyle I've never had those to scenarios act the same, but you'll get mixed opinions.  IMHO, a 100 grain insert is quite a bit longer than standard and the deeper the internal contact area it tends to stiffen the shaft like a footing.  I'd consider long heavy inserts more of a tool for increasing FOC than reducing dynamic spine, but your mileage may vary.
