GPS, Onxmap hunting gps chip.

Is anyone familiar with this device? Apparently it's a chip that will plug in to a garmin gps and shows a map of the public/private land as an overlay to your existing map. If it is reliable this would be a huge asset to someone like me who primarily hunts public land. Anyone had any experience with it? I am looking into a gps I have never owned one. I assume regular gps maps do not denote public land from private? I am completely knew to the technology but feel it could be a great asset.

They are a great tool to have....been using one for mule deer hunting in Wyoming. I also bought quadrangle maps of the areas I hunt and from the GPS, drew all the state and BLM sections on these maps.

I have no experience with the chip, but I got the app for my android phone last year during the St. Jude's Auction and I really like it. I have found it very useful so far.

I have used them and really like them. I have the multi state model which doesn't give quite as much info but it still shows public and private boundaries. My dad and brother have the individual state models and they also give landowner names and a few more details. They seem to work a little better in the newer model GPS' too. (Different colors and clarity.) Hope this helps. PM me if more info is needed. John

I bought the GA chip last year and LOVE it. Works great, if I had one complaint it is the update each year costing $30. I think that is a bit high for a software update but overall I still think it is worth the cost. You do not HAVE to update, the maps keep working but if there are any new boundaries you would not have those.

I have the Montana chip in my GPS. Love it. It really allows me to find public access around private land that many landowners try to make you believe is not accessible. Many don't blatantly post the public land, but they sure do try to make it seem extremely uncertain. These maps are very accurate. They also give landowners names, so a person can try to speak with them for permission to hunt their land.

Thanks for all the replies! It sounds like a good deal if everyone has had such good experiences with it. Navigating public land can be tricky to say the least. Especially when trying to rely on state issue maps. Does it show ALL public land? State parks national forests etc?

I got the MT version a few weeks ago, still learning it. Gives good detail on all private and public land. I'm sure I've only scratched the surface of it and the new GPS.
