Built a couple of bow racks today

Well, it seems that I have accumulated more bows than I had storage for.  It had gotten to the point where you couldn't see mine and my wife's deer mounts because they had bows hanging on them.  So, I decided to actually do something productive this weekend.  Here's what i started with.

 

Since several of them are only shot by my kids, I decided to move them to their rooms.  I built my daughter a rack out of some old tongue and groove cherry scraps I had laying around.

 
 

For my son's room, I built a three bow rack out of yellow pine.  I used an old Japanese wood finishing technique known as Shou Sugi Ban, that was traditionally used on exterior cedar siding:  I charred the wood, cleaned it off with a wire brush, then finished it with tung oil.

 
 

I still have two bows hanging on the antlers above my old cedar barnwood bow rack, but it looks a lot neater now than it did before.

Thanks guys.  I've read about that finishing technique and have wanted to try it for a while, but this was the first chance I've had.  I really like how it turned out and will definitely be using it again.

I have always felt that Bows, Arrows, Fishing poles, Guns, Antlers, etc. Hanging all around the house, give a home an "outdoorsy" feel.....

The two pegs used for each bow are 13" apart horizontally.  The three pairs of pegs are spaced 5" vertically.  The two uprights are 20" long, and the horizontals are 18".  I came up with these measurements by spacing out my bows on my table and measuring the spacing that I needed.  Not sure how well a three piece TD would fit.  Using an 8' pine 1"x4" (I think it was about $2.50-$3), you can get all four pieces from one board with a little left over.  I used twelve 1 1/4" wood screws to assemble it and two 2" wood screws to mount it to the wall.  Even counting the little bit of tung oil I used, it may have cost $5 total.
