Hi, im the new guy that broke his brand new Sammick Sage One Piece bow at full draw. Well they sent me a 50 pound replacement and today I got its conscious dirty. I shot a boar only 100 yards away from my house(not 100 yard shot;). 10-12 yard moving shot with high grass blocking most of the kill zone. Hit right behind the shoulder fairly low. No pass thru and it appeared to not have much penetration. Although later I saw that It went through to the inside of the other front leg. To add to the weirdness, I was using an arrow I found. The arrow was the same as my bareshaft tuned GT 340, except the brass insert is a mystery. Felt like about 50g. Either way I took the shot close enough and got the kill. Although tracking was a real adventure. I became a pig and rutted my way through all kinds of tunnels and small spaces. It took 2 hours to find the boar 30 yards from the house. It circles around in a spiral. Pigs love doing these spiral dances when chased. My dog "helped" me by getting distracted and chasing the neighbors horses...twice. She was mostly there for a warning so i didn't crawl face to face with the creature I just wounded. As if claustrophobia, dehydration, and itchyness from buffalo grass wasn't enough. Speaking of grass, I had to stairmaster my way through a frame of itchy grass shoots that were just strong enough to hold me half the time. The other half, I was falling sometimes past my waist. I would roll on my back to fall flat down to the grass, only to gain 4 ft of distance. Then burpee again. What a workout. Did I mention itchy? The rest of the time I was dragging my body through tunnels that I couldn't lift my head through. The main question was "climb" or "crawl". I eventually found him lying in a seemingly endless field of 14ft tall "itchy grass". My dog was barking at the lifeless body but wouldn't go within a couple feet. I almost considered it was "just a rock". I took my time poking its head with my shoe to "make sure" before I began gutting the thing. Took me over 15 minutes just to gut since the grass was crowding all around. Thats when i got lost. Well , Dehydrated is a better word. Its easy to get lost 30 yards from home when time starts slowing down and you enter dreamy reality. I eventually made my way back home, drank water, got a golf cart, dragged the pig downhill to the nearest dirt road, then loaded it up and drove (2 minutes) home. Pretty fun getting to take the pic AFTER a shower. What a fun day. Guys I promise not to shoot a found arrow with a Mystery insert and terrible right fletchings with a left bevel EVER AGAIN. I forgot to mention the broadhead was my own. My shot was good, but if it was Great...I think I could have saved 2 hours. But what a fun 2 hours. I hope a don't start oinking. I already snort laugh.
