Here is my honest option on the Black River Bow:
First off I would like to thank Will Cocke for the opportunity to give his bow a test run.
Upon receiving the bow the first thing I noticed was the quality of the veneers are top notch with great character throughout. After assembling the bow the next thing I really liked was the mass weight and the grip. The fit and finish on the bow was among the best that I could compare it to.  The first limbs I shot were the longbow limbs which I found to be very accurate and stable. But after putting the recurve limbs on I would have a hard time switching back to the longbow limbs. The recurve limbs are super smooth and very efficient. Great cast and absolutely send a heavy arrow with authority.
All in all I would rank this bow right up there with the best of them. I surely will own one in the future,
Big Ed

The Black River Pass around is on its way to ghall80(Gary Hall).

A BIG THANKS to Will Cocke for the opportunity to try out the Black River bow(s).

Although,I've just tried the Hybrid setup; I have to agree with what all the guys are ravings about... how awesome Black River Bow is. The whole package is there and it's a pretty well thought out project(s): The workmanship is outstanding and a remarkable mild manner shooting bow....that is fast and accurate.  >>>>----->

My Black River review

I got the bow and right away put together the longbow limbs,  I really wanted to see this set up more than the recurve. And the first thing I can say is his veneers are awesome and the glass was perfect the combinations he picked out was beautiful.  But when I put it together for some reason it just didn’t look right to me.  The bow shot great looked attractive but with the riser just screamed recurve. And this is not a negative hit on the bowyer at all the design to me seems to look and feel the best as a recurve.  I know Hybrid bow are supposed to be both I just could not get to like the longbow setup. But it shot very very well, no complaint on the performance at all. No hand shock it put arrows done range with some power and speed.

When I put the recurve set up together that’s when I said yeah now that’s a bow.  I always look at a guys limb tips to see quality and these are super nice limb tips they are perfect.  These veneers are even better looking than the longbow veneers and those were super nice. Now this is when I could really see Wills craftsmanship come through on this combo. I am making a set of arrows that would match this bows dark woods , a little creative inspiration happened while shooting this bow. The riser has a lot going for it grip is great the mass weight was nice to have, bow just plain old shoots good. Didn’t need to change much I had a few arrows made up and the bow grouped them down range with no issues at all. The bow performed great and feels like high-end bow for sure. I wish the recurve limbs were about 55lbs to really see the power.

But the recurve  to me really seemed to look, feel and shoot better than the longbow did.  The only thing I would like to see would be a better transition in the limb bases to the riser. The bottom limb looks great but on the top limb one side is squared off. With a riser like this with all the cut outs and radiuses put in I feel it would look even better not having that one side squared off. I love to see bows with a top limb and bottom has perfect placements in the riser that flow together like one piece of wood. But this is a cosmetic thing only and I would prefer a bow that shoots good then looks good any day.

Both setups are fantastic Will does an awesome job and really looking to see more from him for sure  I am not sure now what to do defiantly need to get on the horn with Will and talk bows. I truly had my mind made up on another bow but this has got me thinking again

Excellent bow and thank you for the opportunity Will

I find it interesting how some love the longbow set up and others the recurve.  When I had the bow i liked the feel and performance of the hybrid best.  These reviews are proof the "perfect" bow depends on the shooters style and preferences.  One things we all agree on is that its a great bow.

I personally think its kind of cool how the top limb is asymmetrical,  just aesthetics though like you said, I'm not sure I would have even noticed if you had not brought it up.  Good review.

Do you think it was the hefty riser that kept it from feeling like a longbow to you?
