Tell me about this Bear Polar
« on: October 24, 2007, 08:01:00 PM »
My In-laws' neighbor is a recent widow and she was going to put a bunch of her husband's stuff in a yard sale.  I went by to look at what she had and she was going to put this bow up for sale.  I told her not to, that she would get more for it on that website that can't be named.  I volunteered to find out about it and help her post it and some other things of value (not archery related).  What can you guys tell me about this bow?  I know it's from the 70's and I suppose from the Florida factory.  Don't know what the woods are; bocote and cocobola?
It's left handed
Serial #
7K726
66"
42#

Whats the best way to clean it up and how much should it go for?
Thanks

I thought the Polar was discontinued in 1970?
I would think it's a 1967 with bubinga and zebrawood

It's a '67 and I want it.

That is a 1970 Tartar. Was featured on the cover of the 1970 Bear Catalog.

It's for sale Doug but technically I'm not allowed to do third party sales here.  I'm trying to get some info so I can post it on e****

Tartar?  Haven't heard of it. (not suprising) Is that a special run of Polars?  It says polar on the limbs.

I thought the K series was 70's and from Florida.  The coin is gold/brass and is the raised bear.  That's a stabilizer thread on the front of the riser?  BTW the white glass is more yellowed than it appears in the pics.  More of an antiqued white.  Any ideas of value range? $150-$200?  It does have some wear and tiny usage dings and such but no twist in limbs and no cracks I've found so far.

My bad. It is a 67 Polar. The Tartar is what replaced it. The site plate is what threw me and a dyslexic look at the serial number.

I would expect it to bring between $125 and $175 depending on who's bidding.

That's what I was thinking too when I first saw it then realized it was a lefty.  No where as nice a finish on it as the one you had at camp Kathy but in fairly good shape.

Why not just post it in the classifieds here for $175 shipped? The highest price bringing Polar in recent times was a 1966 38# for $160+

I've gotten a lot of nice bows there. Chuck, Bear moved to Gainesville in 1978, so I usually think of Florida bows as 80's bows, not 70's.

Ah, seventies...bows, horses, youth...*sigh*
Is this what we seek on yeBay?

VM,
I thought no third party sales were allowed?  It's not my bow, I'm selling it for her.
