Am I giving in ?
« on: September 02, 2016, 11:56:00 PM »
Well I'm thinking very strongly about taking my lawn tractor with me when I go to our hunting property when I hunt .
The thing is , my lower back is giving me problems and it's hard to walk let alone drag a deer .
I will still walk to my blind but I'm thinking the tractor would be handy to get the deer to my truck .
I'm I giving in ?
I hunt alone and have no one to help me if I get a deer .
Or should I just not hunt anymore ?
What do you think ?
And buy the way I have good cell phone coverage there so if I did get in trouble , I could call for assistance .
I just don't want to quit yet , but I don't want to be stupid either .

Go hunting.

Most guys are driving 4 wheelers right up to their deer these days.

I don't see how taking the easy way out when packing a deer could possibly be a bad thing. Especially if you get to keep doing what you love. I'm sure most guys out west would love to be in a situation where they can drive a truck right up to their elk instead of humping it 5 miles.

Just video yourself dragging a deer with your mower. Sounds like a funny story for the grandkids to me.

I don't think that's giving in. You gota do what you gota do to continue what you love. As long as any of us can draw a bow I think we should keep huntin. Just cause you need a little horse power getting a deer to the truck don't mean a thing. Keep doing your thing as long as you can. That's what I think

I'd drive a walking drag line if that's what I had to do to get into the woods. Do whatever you have to do to enjoy your time hunting and don't worry about what others may think. Whatever you decide, don't give up. I think it would be the beginning of the end.

Do what you got to do. Oh and don't worry about what people think. You still hunt with a trad bow you aren't giving in.
Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow.

Keep hunting and just do it your way. I'm 68, hunt my own land. When I get a deer, I walk back to the house and hop on the tractor. It has a front loader on it. Makes things a lot easier for an old guy.

Giving in to what?  I say hunt however you can or want, as long as it's legal, of course.

Most of the time getting the deer out after the kill is by far the hardest part of the hunt. I feel that anything you can do to make that part easier will make the hunt more enjoyable. If you're dreading the drag then you might talk yourself out of hunting that day or maybe even year and that's not what any of us want to do. Enjoy the hunt any way possible as long as you can!!

Hope your back eases up graps. I know your pain. I have frangible stenosis in my lumbar area.

There is no definition of "traditional" when it comes to getting them out of the woods, or the trip there and back. There is no difference in using a quad runner, tractor, or vehicle, to get us to and from hunting and to help us get deer out. I've used a truck for years for the same reasons. I only do things differently now, because im stuck hunting public ground right now. By all means. ....KEEP HUNTING

It is not giving in, it is taking care of your back! After the kill, the hunting is over, and the work begins. Take whatever precautions you need to prevent further injury to yourself. It is hunting, not a macho man display, so don't worry about it.

Funny thing , it has been mentioned that I could talk myself out of hunting .
Last year I did a couple times talk myself out of hunting that day because I was worried that I might get a deer and I didn't feel up to dealing with it .
That's almost funny because I can remember my dad saying "what if I get a deer ? " and he wasn't joking .
I guess I could also do what my late hunting partner used to joak about . He would say " just camp out with it and eat it on the spot "

Nothing wrong with using mechanical help IMO.Short of getting my truck as close as I can,I've enlisted the help of my neighbor with his loader bucket and the kid down the street with his ATV and trailer. No regrets here!

Go ahead and do what it takes to keep yourself hunting...it's all good!
