An Olympic yardage shot after running up a mountain.  My that is something!

Thanks to everyone for reading. It's pretty awesome to be able to share with people who hunt like we do. We were definitely planning our Tradgang write-ups before we even got home.. Thanks again for reading and we appreciate all the kind words!

Would like to know more about the knife slip up (educate us.)  What happened? Mistake? How bad??  Congrats again though.

Well... I was peeling some of that first layer of silver skin off of the back strap with my left hand while the back strap was still connected to the elk. Its more like the film you can get off with your hand, not the actual silver skin. I had the knife in my right hand. My left hand slipped through the film I was pulling off and straight into my knife. A stab wound right in the meat of my left thumb. It needed stitches but by the time I made it to the clinic (3 days later) they said it was too late and that stitches would trap the infection in so they gave me some antibiotics.

Always thought I was good with knives.

Great story you guys! So cool you could share such an experience together! And I'm glad it all worked out well...

I always carry a med kit with me (and I've had to use it in the filed from time to time over the years). But butterfly bandages or steri-strips would have worked well on that wound. I also carry a small amount of tincture of benzoin which really helps bandages stick to your skin in places where bandages don't like to stick. Literally, having a good, simple med kit can be a life saver!
