Been gone for a long while. Guess I got burned out. Sold all of my archery tackle and bought a shotgun and a bird dog. Many, many great adventures with Gunner, but all good things must come to an end... Gunner's gone, but not the memories. Good dogs just don't live long enough.
I recently relocated to Arkansas to be closer to my kids and grandkids and after reading through the hunting regs found that there are pretty long and liberal bowhunting seasons down here.
While I was at my daughters house, I mentioned that I might get back into archery. My son in law says "I've got one of your bows, you should start shooting again" I asked "what bow?" He says "I don't know, it's in a bow sock under the bed". Sure enough, it's an Aspen Classic that I'd bought fifteen or so years ago. The bow is too heavy for me, but holding it was enough to turn the embers into a raging inferno...
Now if that wasn't enough, My other daughter and son in law took me up to Springfield MO last weekend to the Bass Pro Shop. Naturally I had to visit the archery hall of fame. While I was looking at the displays I ran across one with a couple of old books by Saxton Pope. "The Adventurous Bowmen" and "Hunting with the Bow and Arrow". I mentioned to my daughter that I used to have those books and wouldn't mind having them back. She says "I've got them and you can have them back". I was beside myself. I've lost, sold or just gave away so much stuff over the years that getting these treasures back was just about overwhelming.
I'm truly thankful for these gifts and just wanted to share.
