The aggrivating "Buzz Bow"

Just thought I would throw a few thoughts out about a bow that I have had for about 6 years which simply refuses to shut up..!!!
The bow in question Is absolutely one of my darlings..! IIt is a Reproduction 59 Kodiak....not made by BEAR....But by Ed Holcomb. At 47# The bow is an absolute screamer! Superlative performance......And just a beautiful bow!!!
Here is the rub! It is Mega critical about string material and brace height. For silence I keep the brace between 8"-8 1/4"..! At that stage it starts to quiet up..!!! However, I have never been able to silence it anywhere near my other recurves. I have shot half a dozen different 12-14 -16 strand b-50's, 2 different "fast flight" strings 12 and 14 strand, a 10 strand SBD, 2 OTHER BCY Skinny
   strings, a 12 strand ASTROFLIGHT and a few others... 10 different string silencers,at 1/4 of string length....1/3 of string   length....and a combo of both,velcro at the tips...YOU NAME ItIT...and finally a 15 strand 450+ which I will try tommorrow.
Now shooting 3 under...even with a feather rest and elevated nock point contributes some, but its twin sister bow by the same maker is MUCH quiter, albeit at 51#.  The noise made is kind of a "buzz"....... and its AGGRIVATING. I've heard other bows that were noisey as well. Heavy arrows help, could just be the nature of the beast.
Anybody else have this issue.??? Even though this was made for me, perhaps I really have encountered a bow that is made exclusively for split finger draw..??? And "No"...I did not use Terrys "BOW HUSH"...But I did wrap the Flemish string with some angora wool in a dubbed fashion....nothin'.....frustrating...!!! Thoughts???? Lets hear em'......jackdaw

Well, I'm no expert... but perhaps Bowhush/moleskin on the limb tips, 11-12 gpp arrows, and the rubber whisker type silencers cut short and doubled up top and bottom for 4 total, then moleskin again on the side plate.

If you are open to stepping out of the box a bit, try two under perhaps.

put some limb savers on it plus 4 small puffs, had a bow doing the same thing and it went from buzzy/noisy to dead quiet.. this was after trying cats whiskers you name it..

Have you had someone else listen to you shoot? Sometimes what we hear cannot be heard elsewhere and is actually quieter from a distance than our "quiet" bows. I have one bow like that and it drove me crazy too only to find out that at 5 yards others couldn't hear it at all.  Drives you crazy!

I've always had best results with rubber whiskers.

I realize that the bows are loudest  to ourselves! But yes I've actually had people tell me about its buzz. I even tried some of those stick-on rubber buttons Which are similar to limbsavers..........!!! The quietest I've ever heard it is when people who shot it split..!! Shooting split feel so alien to me....!!!! I'm going to try unbalanced silencers, two below one above...to try and counteract the 3 under "effect"....but keep the suggestions coming! I will try them all if I have to..!....many thanks..jackdaw

Take a close look at the tiller.  Unbalanced limbs will do that too, even on awesome bows.

Cat whiskers, top at 25% total measurement from where the bow string first touch the limbs and the bottom at 30% of the measurement.

Not sure what the range is for brace, but have you went any farther to see if it helps since it starts to quieten up at that height?

Sounds like a problem I had with my border recurve. My problem was limb tip vibration.

Pluck the string heavily and then quickly hold the string to dampen it. If the noise is still there it's a limb vibration problem and no amount of string silencing will help. Pluck the string again and dampen the limb tips while doing so. Just rest the tip on something soft will do, like your leg. If the noise is gone I have a solution. I made tip dampeners for mine and they literally gave my noisy border the longbow 'thud'.

Well Ozy....I believe you may have nailed the issue! As I'm doing this that sure seems to quell it instantly...! Care to expound a bit upon what you did for tip dampeners?.....THX..!!!...JACKDAW
Btw....kennym..Yes, I went all the way to eight and a half inches and it did not change for me at eight and a qtr...

Interesting.... I thought it might only be my border with it's radical curved carbon limbs.
I might actually be onto something that could be a game changer for silencing bows. And they serve double use as a tip protector. Win win!

Told you you should have sold me that bow. I'd treat her right and shoot her split fingered and she'd be quiet as a mouse.

I didn't catch if you wrapped the loop tag ends with wool yarn. I do that on a couple of hunting bows and it seems to help with any buzz from them.

the cat will be out of the bag when i finish testing my idea. i'm trying a few materials and working out the best sizes to suit most bow tips.
