Have not seen ol fat boy in person yet. Won't hunt with wrong wind and have had plenty of that. The corn next door is being cut today,  bad or good don't know. Gun is saturday, so that may be the end of him.

Meanwhile, I have seen and passed on other bucks and does. Has been a great time away from work.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

OK, went this morning, saw 2 little bucks(well , one was thru brush so I'm sayin he was little to make me feel better) , wind was crappy, so went home and had lunch. Called bro , he says why don't you come hunt that stand on South end of bedding area? After the usual arguing about who should hunt it, he says I have a lot to do and won't be able to hunt tonight.

Sooooo, there I was at 1:00 , wind wasn't bad for stand coming from NNE. I sat til 2:14 when I saw a buck cruising toward me from the East. I started to reach for my camera, and thought" dummy, tomorrow morning is gun season"

So I readied my bow and when he was in a good spot, drew and made a little mouth bleat. He stopped, I released and it looked good. A bit low to suit me but tight behind front leg.

He mule kicked and I thought heart...

He ran South and went in brush at a levee, other side is new hunters who have been hunting it hard. I thought, nooooooo, but he went in.

I marked the spot mentally and waited....

After 20 minutes I got down and marked where he was when I shot, and he kicked taking off. Good blood in 10 feet, arrow fell out in 20 feet,  and I waited the other 10 minutes before heading out in the beanfield he crossed.

Blood wasn't real great, but hard to see on dirt. I tracked him into the brush on the other edge, about 80 yds so far. There he turned left so not to jump the ditch at levee. Blood was better but not pouring out for a low 2 hole shot.

Then I came to where he stopped, too graphic to show, he leaked a lot there. Another 20 yards and there he lay like asleep, curled up like a pup.

I watched him for several more minutes, then went on up. All pics were taken just as he lay.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Congrats Kenny....knew you would get it done!  Hopefully, fat boy will make it through gun season and you will put him on a permanent diet.

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Thank you guys!! Everything went right on this one, right down to the combine showing up to cut the beans so we had to drag him 15 feet instead of a half mile!!

Kenny - he sure looks like the one you passed on the 3rd... Same nobbed off end on right G3....If it wasn't for the forehead color looks like the same deer.  Looking back maybe it is the same buck and the color is from the lighting....

Congrats!  I cut bait and came home this past Monday, was on my place in MO for a week and with the heat very little movement.  Got 3 acres of beautiful oats and not a nibble.  They were eating acorns like it was September.  Planning to give it a go out there around Christmas.
