If you like that bright yellow for keeps, yellowheart wood is the ticket.

There is a way to keep the bright yellow.  A knife maker in SC told me about it...but I forgot.  I'll look him up when I get back in Aiken the end of Nov.

I love knotty squirrely Osage.  Bowyers don't like it cause they can't trust the strength but knife makers go crazy for it.  I especially love the contrasting end grain...tippit

My Schafer two piece longbow ten years back, when it was four or five years old.  It is darker now.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Great pics!
Looper- nice looking knife, glad to see someone else matches their gear.
Tippit- that is some very cool looking osage....but we need to see the rest of the knife!
From new to old, those are some nice looking bows. Its kinda cool that the wood continues to change as it ages, like its living its second life, first as a tree then as a work of art/tool. Very much fits with the romaticism of traditional archery.....fuel for thought while sitting in a stand later today.

This knife is FAN-TAS-TIC!   :notworthy:

For hunting, I have a bow or two that are made with  cocobolo veneer for the back and osage for the belly.

Camo from the dark wood, osage on the belly for the inspiration.

10 year old Osage ends up darker then Bocote...  I've got proof in one of my MOABs...  just don't have pics at the moment...

The first few years it is pretty bright, but the critters didn't seem to mind...  Turkey might, but I didn't carry that bow after them at that time...  Wouldn't hesitate carry it now!
