Lets talk Hope and Faith
« on: November 01, 2016, 02:15:00 PM »
Black River Bows will be making bows for the Hope and Faith this year.  Completed in December.  I am going to build a left and a right hand Hybrid.  What poundage do you guys think will best suit most of you.   I was thinking 51-55 at 28"

Also if there are any sponsors or contributors that would like to contribute anything special,  veneers, woods or anything to have a hand in the bows let me know.

Look forward to the opportunity and the hunts to come!

Will, what's the average weight on the bows you've previously built ordered by your customers? I've had a few bowyers tell me they can sell every 45 pounder they can build.

But then again I draw 30" which puts me in that 50+ neighborhood.

I think 55 is a bit much. 45-48 seems better. JMO

I would agree that a mid 40's may be better.. I know it would be better to be under bowed than over.

No doubt about that Daniel.  Most bows are ordered 46-53.  Would 45 or 47 be better?

Will,

I like mine in the low 50's but pull 29+ so I'm shooting 55-57# on most of mine.

But the 45-47# range would give more opportunities for everyone. Besides your bow I hear pull so smooth most wouldn't know it's a higher poundage
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.

45-48 sounds perfect to me. I would seriously look at bidding on the lefty when it comes to St. Jude time!

Shooting for 45lbs+ @28 would be my suggestion. Plenty for most all game they would persue.

I tend to shoot ~45# most of the time. That's at a 25"'draw though, so were talking 50-55#@28". But I think a hair over 45#, say 47#@28" is ideal. Enough weight a short draw shooter could take game, but not so much that a long draw guy has to suffer.

First, let me say thank you for dedicating your time, labor, expertise, and funds to such a wonderful cause and such a fun tradition here on the Gang.

Second, I would think anything between 45-55lbs would be great.  Keep the length long enough that guys with 29-30" draws aren't getting a lot of finger pinch.  Doing this would put the bow into a huntable category for the vast majority of users.  If you were building it for just me, I'd say 60" and 50-55 lbs would be ideal.

As for woods, I think it would be most fun to have woods donated or bought from other vendors or something.  The more TradGang community that can be involved from materials to building the better.  That's part of what makes the Hope and Faith bows so much fun.  Horn tips would be a cool addition.  I'd be willing to donate some whitetail antler pieces if I have some on hand of the right sizes for you to add to the build, although my stash is fairly small as of now.  Feel free to PM me if interested.

It might be a good bow to try something new that you've had on your mind and debut it as a prototype whether its a new finish or shape of accent piece, or what not and then it could add a little something cool to be able to get in on the first of whatever feature offered at the St. Judes auctions.  I'd say just build it for the average user of yours and have a LOT of fun with it.

I'd like to throw a "vote" in for lower 50's...

Thanks for bringing this back... I can't wait to get my name on the list!

Your bows are beautiful!
