Well I was blessed this year with an extra tag to hunt the Willamette 600 series extra long season from Sept.1st to Feb. but wanted to save the tag to hunt in the rut or should I say early rut as they are just getting going.
Still have an unused deer tag for mid Nov.
I was also blessed to have my friends 80 acres to hunt on right near the big city.
Saw lots of smaller deer and some great early rut activity.
I really have a hard time passing on a shot but also wanted to find a mature Blacktail buck, lots of activity around and I knew it was only a matter of time and persistence.
This is what Blacktail country looks like on a rare nice day in November.
Well the persistence paid off when this guy came in, he was mingling around a bunch of does but not really getting after it. A nice spike came in and paid a little to much attention to one of the does, this upset mr. big, he chased off the little guy and proceeded to have a talk with the doe, then turned broadside at 12 yards from my ground blind.
55# 60" Raptor Signature with a footed wood arrow and a Simmons Treeshark did its job.
