keeping arrow on shelf
« on: November 10, 2016, 05:43:00 PM »
been a while since i hunted with stick and string How does everyone insure that your arrow will stay on the shelf while being hung on hook. Just purchased beautiful Tall tines and not about to drill to add arrow holder ! Any ideas that will not compromise the wood on the bow bocte riser with myrtle flare and myrtle burl limbs !

Toothpick and rubberband. I have never used it, but read great reviews of it on this site.

I won't drill my inexpensive Samick - and I hunt exclusively on the ground.  Used the rubber band with matchstick (2, placed end to end & taped together, for proper length) this year, worked very well.

I shoot off a feather rest. Arrow nestles in there good enough I don't need an arrow holder anymore!

I've never needed anything extra on any of my bows.  I use velcro for rest material and once it gets broke in the arrow stays in place well on stand.
This stuff ain't no rocket surgery science!

You shouldn't need anything.

It's the same as shooting off the knuckle.

If you shoot split finger and roll your fingers clockwise you can shoot the bow with a reverse cant and it still will not fall off the shelf.

He wants the arrow to stay put when hanging up the bow.

There are a couple stick-on arrow holders that work well. They release when you start to draw. I have a Kwik Lok on every bow I own. Check 3 Rivers.

I tilt the bow a bit or lay it across my thighs in the stand.

Never hang it.

And don't keep an arrow knocked when stalking or still-hunting.

Kwik Loc arrow holder. I too have one on every bow I hunt with. They come in handy when hanging a bow or just when you are fiddling around in a tree stand reaching behind you or something. Cheap insurance.

You guys are missing out on one of natures most wonderful sounds.  The metallic clanking of an aluminum arrow bouncing off the steps of a ladder stand.

i use a piece of wood and sometimes plastic attached to the opposite side of the riser as the shelf with non permanent double sided tape, there is a small hole drilled in the end of this piece of wood with a small elastic slipped through then looped over itself,,, i then pull elastic around arrow shaft in front of fletching and then back over wood.

the arrow isnt going anywhere i can even  flip bow upside down the arrow isnt budging,,, once you draw the elastic comes off  arrow,,,,,,this is the best i found.  same as toothpick trick but my way everything stays on bow and imposible to forget.
the style denny sturgis jr uses looks pretty good too

Kwik Loks aren't just for tree stands.

Yesterday I went from still hunting to stalking mode when I tried to close the distance on a few white tails. After I spotted the deer I nocked up and set the holder. I do the same when hunting ground hogs, squirrels, or pigs at Wild Things. I can nock the arrow and set the holder with my thumb without ever taking my eyes off the target.

I set it when sitting on my Big Jim tree seat too. I stand the bow on its tip and lean it against my leg on the inside or outside. On the ground you seldom have time to fiddle with an arrow or toothpicks.

I also use one when bow fishing. Cold wet fingers get a break if you don't have to hold the arrow in place.

I started using Kwik Loks after my gloved index finger actually froze to my aluminum arrow while hunting. The worst part was when my tongue stuck as I tried to nibble the bit of ice off the shaft! (Note to self: don't lick an arrow when it's -20 degrees)

kwiki X2 I put a piece of Velcro on the bow and on the back of the kwiki then if I want to use another bow I put a piece of Velcro on it and use the same kwiki, no since in buying more than one.
