Shark Attack
« on: November 22, 2016, 04:37:00 PM »
Hey guys wanted to share this pic to help illustrate the devastation of a heavy arrow and a wicked sharp Simmons Land Shark!       [/IMG]  My last three seasons have been less than stellar. I normally shoot a couple of does in the beginning of October and then buckle down on what big buck I'm chasing. 2014 I ended up killing one doe and after passing several bucks manage to make a bad non-leathal shot on a true whopper. 2015 I killed a doe and chased a monster 11 pt. for the majority of the season. Even though I had two bow range encounters,I never loosed an arrow. The big 11 was killed the first day of gun season on the next farm over and I heard him shoot. He ended up scoring 174". Now for 2016, not as many sightings as what I am used to but thing picked up in November. I ended up shooting under a stud of an 8 pt. and was starting to see lots of small bucks running around and having a grunting marathon. this takes me to 11/17. I got off work later than expected and hauled tail to the woods. as I was putting my climber on the tree I see a doe running full blast toward me. I know a buck is chasing her but she sees me and turns hard to the left. I nock an arrow waiting to see whats chasing her,but I never hear or see anything. I wait for a while and decide to start climbing tree. Well wouldn't you know as soon as im up ten feet or so here he comes the big 8 pt I missed earlier . He turns before she did and is winding her like a bird dog. Ended up see 4 more bucks chasing and grunting that evening. Its starting to get late so I made the decision to shoot the next deer I see cause its my last day of bow season. here comes the buck in the picture hot on another doe. I shot him on the trot and could tell it more forward than I like. He took off and in 4 Mississippi's he was dead as a hammer. I had passed on this deer two times earlier. But heck its the last day right! Got a pass through with BH,just not enough steam for the whole shaft. Profuse blood trail and a good pint at the shot sight.

Congratulations on a fine VA buck. I like that shot above the knuckle.  I know you fear hitting the big bones, but if you can snake it through, it surely shortens the blood trail.  Sounds like the cap of a good season. Now slide over the border and hunt NC until New Years!
