After trying to kill a whitetail with my longbow for 10 years, I finally got it done Thanksgiving morning. It was a very special day for me, got it done on my family farm in Kansas, from the ground. The big buck that I had been hoping for never showed up, but this little 6 gave me a perfect shot, and with only 3 days to hunt this season I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity! It was an 18 yard shot and I hit just a bit forward of the shoulder, but the 175 grain Simmons did the trick. He was down within sight about 50 yards away. Needless to say, I was very excited. It was the first deer I've killed in 13 years, and my first deer with trad gear. It was also the first buck I have ever killed with any equipment!

I was able to continue hunting with the doe tag I had, and managed to connect again Saturday morning from the same stand. She ducked a bit at the release, but the arrow found her spine and she dropped in her tracks. After eating tag soup for 10 years I was pretty excited to have killed 2 in 3 days!
