Anyone use a Rhino?

I hunt alone (bowhunter thing     the area I'll be in.   How good are the rhinos are they worth the $. any input on another level of hunter safty.

If you have cell coverage where you hunt there are apps that let you send your location as a link along with a message either as a text or an e-mail. I use one to keep my wife updated on my location. I hunt some remote mountain and desert areas but usually have enough signal to get a text out.

The rhinos work great and offer a high degree of accuracy. They are costly and of course provide very limited distance. They are really designed to keep two people in contact that are hunting the same area.

If you have cell service 100% of the time,there are many ways to share your location via a phone. The I-phone has a "share my location" feature that is easy to use.  You can youtube a video on how to do it.

Even if your phone doesn't have this feature, there are countless navigation apps that are free that will show your exact location including the GPS coordinates.  Simply identify your location, screen shot the page and then text that screen shot to someone with your expected arrival time back home or at camp. Simple and accurate to 30'-50'.

This is best done BEFORE you climb up each hunt. That way if you cant call for help, they will know where to come looking when you don't show.

If you have a smart phone and cell service, check out "Life360", it is a free app that allows another person to always know your location. It is accurate enough that I know which parking space my wife is in. Lol

Sound like a lucky man.  My wife has never brought it up...but she does remind me to keep the life insurance premiums paid up.  I guess they're each being thoughtful in their own special way.....

Check out the DeLorme InReach satellite messenger. For what you are describing it would work much better. It has a subscription fee, about $25, and various monthly plans on top of that. You can turn the monthly plans on and off though so you are only paying them on months you are using the unit. With the Rhino, if you get in trouble and need help, somebody will have to be in line of sight to signal them. With the InReach, you just hit the sos button and help is on the way or you can send a text that will go to cell phone or email or both where you are at. I use this elk hunting and I can send my wife a text every evening when I'm done hunting and back at camp, they can also respond to you and it has very very good battery life. Yup delorme in reach or a SPOT.  Spot is one way communication only so you can't receive messages but you can push the button and call for help.  I use the spot and it allows my wife peace of mind. I press the ok button every now and then and she gets an email and text message showing where I am.

I had a spot and I feel upgraded to the InReach, spot is cheaper for the unit cost but more expensive per year assuming you use the cheapest service plan and are better at shutting off the service on months it's not in use than I am with the InReach! I also can get point weather forecasts for the location I'm at with the InReach. If you only subscribe for the one month of service to cover elk season for instance, the InReach would only cost me $40ish a year, then another $15 I think for each other month I might want to use it for scouting or deer season etc.

Yeah, they work great here in n.j. they keep my wife aware as to who's backyard I'm hunting in, should I not return home, but really, I hunted in Idaho awhile back and it would've been invaluable there, should there be an emergency !
