My first with a Recurve
«

December 14, 2016, 02:43:00 PM »
Well folks, after 13 years of hunting trad, 11 of those years as trad only I finally managed to get it done with a recurve. After putting a few animals in the freezer this season with my longbows I decided I would hunt at least a few times with a recurve. I chose one of my Savora takedown recurves with factory camo 65@28 limbs, tuned up some 2216 shafts with 260 grains up front (235 grain Grizzly Kodiaks on 25 grain threaded adapters) and hit the woods. The first sit was on my last afternoon of hunting in Wild Things in South Carolina last week, no opportunity presented itself. Then this past Sunday I headed out in middle GA and a nice, fat, late season doe made the mistake of coming in for a late breakfast of privet hedge.
The shot was later stepped off at 23 yards from the base of my tree. After the shot the doe went 30 yards, laid down and rolled over. It only took me 13 years but in all fairness I have not taken a recurve to the woods until this fall in 11 years. Now if choosing which longbow to hunt with wasn't challenge enough, now I have to add my 6 recurves into the decision process.
The season of 2016 has been VERY good to me.
