Has anyone tried wood arrows from Howard Hill Archery?
« on: December 21, 2016, 06:32:00 PM »
I've been saving for a HH Welsey Special takedown ever since I had a chance to visit Craig's shop a few months back.  Possibly at the beginning of the new year I'll have enough saved to place an order.

I'm leaning towards shooting weighted carbon shafts, but I would like to try some properly spined, wood arrows for comparison.

Has anyone here tried the arrows that Craig makes?  I'm thinking of maybe ordering 6 with field points and 6 with broadheads, when I order my bow.

Thanks, and Best wishes,
Frank

I think they are rose city shafts,,, should be pretty good as long as the care in making them is top notch.

They make a nice arrow but they are cedar so be wary of that. Do not stump with them they will all break.

I bought a dozen and they are top notch but found they spined about 10# higher than rose city so had to match them with a different bow.

I have had several dozen. They are good arrows and are attractive as well.

Thank you all for your responses.  Very helpful.

I ordered a Hill back quiver today from Craig.  I also asked him as to whether I could order 6 of each (field and broadhead) woodies when I place the order for my Wesley bow next year.  He said that I could.

I suppose at that point (when I've decided on the draw weight and draw length) that he will be able to recommend the properly spined arrows.

That will be an exciting day!

Once I get a feel for the bow's performance with woodies, I'll start experimenting with GT Traditional series carbon arrows, and use GT's internal weight system to get them to mimic woodies.  I'd use the weighted carbons for everyday practice, and probably save the woodies for special occasions and hunting.  My GT carbons are amazingly tough, and take a lot of abuse.

Years ago I got some from them for my first HH Redman. They were really nice and flew beautifully.
