Hi Gang!! Back in high school I was fairly active here, and almost always had my bow in hand. It was only 6 years or so ago but it seems like an eternity. Back then I had an old Pearson Hunter given to me by a friend, and whatever the cheapest arrows I could find at 3R happened to be. I never managed to take any real game, but a possum and quite a few Gar fish fell to my mighty Pearson.
I never really lost interest in the sport, but life kind of let it fade away. Trying to learn how to adult, working out of state, etc. I remained a hunter, and over the years lost access to private lands and moved to public. I actually much prefer the public lands now!
Then earlier this year it hit me... I love to hunt these public areas, and many of them only have maybe a week of combined firearm season... but the full 4 months of archery!
A few months later, I finally acquired another bow. Traded a good friend a complete AR lower I had built for a Hummingbird custom R/D longbow, 58@28. I think she's a beautiful bow. Nice and slim and elegant.
So, now I need the related gear.
After much pondering, I've decided to go wood for arrows, and to assemble them myself.
I know I will be needing some Surewood shafts, a fletch jig, taper tool, feathers (probably precut and colored for now), nocks and field points, finishing supplies (dip tubes, varnish, stain) a decent shooting glove and arm guard, quiver.... what am I missing?
I won't be in the woods with the bow till next October, but man am I excited!!!!
