McCullough Fiftysixer bow
« on: January 07, 2017, 09:53:00 PM »
I have been away a while and the bug has bit again. I see info about a 56" recurve by John McCullough called the fiftysixer.  Does anyone who has one have any photos of them?  It sounds like a bow I'd like to find.  Thanks in advance

I have a 56er and if I ever find another I'm gonna have 2. They are awesome. I also have 56 " griffin it's really nice also. I have bought and sold a lot of bows but haven't found anything to fit me and my style like Johns bows. Good luck.

Calhoun,
Thanks for the pics. Those are 2 fine looking bows.  If it is meant to be, it will be I guess. Bow lust is a bad thing....

I talked to John today, he said he hasn't made any bows for 3 years.

He gave me two of his Griffin longbows that are new and were left from his last show to sell for him at Kalamazoo. One LH and one RH both 60" in the 40's pound range. I'll have then on my table along with my Shrew bows.

I still have plans for a Shrew Samurai. That is the one bow I had and sold that I never will get over. I should plan a trip to surprise my Mother-in-law in Battle Creek this week....

Received my Fiftysixer bow today. It exceeds my expectations.  Too bad more of these fine bows weren't made. If only it was a takedown.....

Are you talking about the McCullough 59er...copy of the Bear 59 Kodiak? I love John's bows and have a number of his Griffins plus a 45#@28 59er. I even have his earlier bows before the Griffin and an Osage selfbow he made.  Too bad he isn't still making bows...tippit

Nope, one of his last designs I found out was his 56'er - a 56" recurve. I found one and here it is. (if the pics work)

Greg,
Just curious what weight you're Fiftysixer is? It's a good looking bow for sure. I had a Griffin, and like a fool I sold it. It's one of the few bows I really wish I had back. Too bad John quit building them.
