1st Trad story.

Went out with Longbow and my 8 yr old daughter. 1st time i ever brought either in the deer woods. She shoots a small custom longbow also and loves any type of shooting or hunting with me. Set up a ground blind with our backs against some trees, and camo netting. After about 45 mins here comes a nice 5 pt walking right into us.

So i start to move and creep up over the ground blind for a kneeling shot. The buck turns broadside at 12 paces and looks at me as i am at full draw. Then i hear "Daddy ,shoot him ! " Then i dont pick a spot , i dont follow thru and the arrow sails over his back. I turn to look at my daughter and she has eyes as big as saucers, a smile ear to ear and is breathing heavy from all the excitement. I realize that i am more excited than when i shot my PY buck last year.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Hey, whats even more funny is that 10 mins later a squirrel walks by and my daughter says "Daddy shoot it" I said " if i cant hit the deer , how can i hit the squirrel?" She whispers back "use your head this time !"

I think she meant "use the force Luke." Great tale of the hunt and family.

The gods of the hunt smile when you take a kid.
Let me rephrase that; God smiles when you do ANYTHING for a child!

Very cool. I took my daugter out a couple years ago and we got realy close to taking one with a shotgun. A fawn came out when they got into range and I wouldn't shoot. When we got to the car she was shaking like she was cold but more. I asked her if she was cold. She said "no why"
I've never seen her like that before or since. She loves going out. She's 11 now and still loving it I'll take her as long as she'll go.

My daughter is 20 (and in college now) but when she was about 8 I took her hunting in a ground blind with me on the lease I was on here in Texas. That particular ranch had great trophy potential and I was definitely going to hold out for a whopper. I told her she had to be "very quiet and still" so not to scare any deer that might come in. After about 45 minutes she had barely moved and had been perfect. Suddenly, a small spike buck came in and she was very intent on looking at him. After a minute or so, she VERY SLOWLY turns around with absolutely huge eyes and whispers "Daddy, shoot the deer!". I had to whisper that he was too little and we were waiting for a big one. She was (to say the least) very disappointed at this detail I had forgot to mention before the hunt began. She still likes to hunt though all these years later and I can't help but smile when I think of the intense look on that little face.
