Bear Takedown Question

I have had a bear Bmag for about a year now and I like everything about it except for the first few pulls of the string after stringing it I hear a clicking sound in the pockets like the limbs are seating themselves. Then it goes away.  Is this normal for bear takedowns? Is there any padding of the pockets that anyone has done to remedy this? thanks in advance, guys.

Lots of opinions on this one.  I have heard of people waxing the bottom of the limb with johnsons paste, taking out the locator screw, moleskin,string up then closing  the latches

I have tried them all and the most permanent fix is laying a piece of moleskin over the limb butts where it rubs. Some times has to be really thin to not mess with the rest of the fit but it definitely works.

Agree with Chad.  Moleskin or if it needs to be thinner, duct tape.  Can also place the material on the riser limb bed channels rather than on the limb bases themselves.

I've used duct tape as well. What ever you use, keep it thin.

What works for me and is very cheap and easy to use. I use pieces of an excersise band I got for rehabilitation when I hurt my knee. It comes in different thicknesses for the different strengths needed for the rehabilitation.

Thanks guys for the great suggestions. I put a thin piece of felt across the limb just above the locator screw hole and it worked well, though it was tough to close the latches. Might need to go just a little thinner. Is this the right place? If anyone has a pic, that would be great. Thanks again, Jeff

I suggest you go to something thinner, and soon.  If the latches close real tight, the latch hinge in effect pulls on the latch base, which is only held in place by two small, short screws. It sort of levers the latch base away from the riser base. Too much pressure, and those screws can pull out.

Orion is correct.

You will have to experiment around to find something thinner. It is not the tightness of the fit that eliminates the noise, it is the elimination of sound-causing friction. Thus, you don't need something that makes the latches hard to close.

I have the same problem on a new green stripe I just bought. I tried duck tape and that didnt work for me. Then I tried a super thin felt and that helped. I did call Bear archery and they said put it on the bottom of the limb and the face of it.So i tried hat and it worked.
